Problem
The Federal Government encourages mining companies to engage indigenous owned or operated small business. Mining companies were struggling to find suitable Indigenous small businesses. They also required industry-specific information about the capabilities of these businesses.
Client brief
Manage all aspects of producing the directory including:
- field trips to identify and assess indigenous business capabilities
- collect and develop content for entries
- provide a 1 hour face-to-face business consultancy and capabilities assessment to individual indigenous businesses
- provide copy writing, design and photography for entries
- meet and report to stakeholders and provide detailed scheduling and progress reports
- produce a printed and online directory
- assist the Minister in the project launch.
Solution
The Government funded the production of a directory of Indigenous owned or operated businesses to assist industry to quickly source local indigenous suppliers. Mitara was engaged to research and produce the directory including an online version containing an index and search facility.
Outcome
The ‘Digedi’ was welcomed by industry, acknowledged by stakeholders and has proven successful in generating business opportunities for entrants. As a result, expansion of the ‘Digedi’ to Western and South Australia is proposed for the near future.
